Although we may be yearning for summer, winter is good for a few things and one of those is cosy nights in. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of walking from the train in the dark and cold, to see a light on at home and know it will be warm perfect cosy night in.

In Denmark they call it Hygge, translated literally it means ‘cosiness’ but it is so, so much more. It’s mulled wine and fluffy slippers, puppy cuddles and a roaring fire – it is everything that makes you feel warm and snuggly and at peace with the world.

#1 Sofa Duvet

You are never too old for sofa duvet; a warm marshmallow existence with enough room for two. It is the perfect accompaniment to a Netflix binge and will leave you feeling seriously cosy – especially if it’s cold out.

#2 Turn off the Tech

Yep, it’s not all about fluffy socks, you should turn off all those distractions and appreciate the Hygge moment happening. You can’t feel snuggly and cosy if your friendship WhatsApp group is losing it over Fifty Shades Darker.

#3 Jumper Up

There is nothing quite like a fleecy jumper (under your sofa duvet of course) to really get you feeling warm and cosy. Fleece lined, knitted or crocheted there is a style for us all.

#4 Good Book

Reading a good book helps you relax and gives you some escapism time to explore another world. It encourages Hygge from helping you forget life’s worries and embrace that cosiness.

#5 Delicious Drink

Whether your tipple is hot chocolate or mulled wine, a warming drink will heighten that feeling of cosiness and is delicious. Hot milky drinks especially take you back to childhood tastes and it is a very relaxing feeling.

#6 Comfort Food

This isn’t for every day but for a super cosy night in, so food should definitely be on the agenda. My favourite would be a big bowl of pasta – filling, hot and delicious – and eating delicious food with a loved one feeling completely chilled is one of life’s greatest pleasures.

#7 Candles

The soft glow of candles are also easy on the eyes and does away with bright overhead lights – allowing you to enjoy the soft darkness.

#8 Music

A perfectly picked playlist can accompany any good night, spend time in advance creating a relaxed playlist so you have it ready. Lots of smooth beats and a couple of love songs should warm your musical cockles.

#9 Cosy cuddles

It’s always much more cosier doing it with with someone , friends, partner or family. We all love to snuggle up and feel nice and warm on the inside and outside with those we love. Create memories and keep cosy.

#10 soft warm smells

Opting for relaxing scents such as lavender can relax you after a day of troubles they take you into a completely new atmosphere. You can use scented candles or buy a nice spray.

You can mostly find me under two sofa duvets with a hot chocolate and a good book to find my Hygge, candles everywhere and relaxing music playing.
Agree with me? What’re your cosy night in ideas?
