Do you sometimes struggle with creating a great impression at the workplace, with new friends, with the in-laws, business contacts? Then this is for you.

As they say “First impressions cannot be created a second time” that being said always make sure your first and last impression is a good one!

Below are tips on how to create a great impression:

KEEP TO YOUR WORD

People who do what they say they will always leave a  great impression. This is because integrity is one thing that is lacking nowadays. Once you make a promise, keep it.

UNDER PROMISE AND OVERPERFORM

This is obviously quite self-explanatory. For example, if you have a document that needs to be submitted to your manager on Tuesday, why not tell him/her you will deliver on Tuesday but actually to deliver it the Friday before or Monday! Your manager will see you as someone that is reliable and trustworthy which can only lead to something good.

SMILE AND BE CONFIDENT

Smiling makes you more welcoming, it’s not necessary to show all your teeth,  a small grin will do 🙂 Also be confident, confident people are easier to talk to as they are more relaxed.

DRESS ACCORDINGLY

We are not saying break the bank or dress like you are hitting the runway but do put an effort into dressing presentably. Whether you are going for an interview or for an event. Perception is created easily and how you dress adds to it.

KEEP TO TIME

If this is your first time meeting the person then it goes without saying that should be on time, if you can try and arrive a few minutes before the scheduled meet up. Try and keep this constant with all your meetups, this is something you will be remembered for.

PAY COMPLIMENTS

Everyone likes a nice compliment if you have nothing nice to say it is better not to say anything as most people can tell when you are lying. Paying compliments also show you are focusing on them and not you.

BE A GREAT LISTENER

When in meetings or meeting new people always listen attentively, this helps build trust. Try to make eye contact with the speaker and also allow them to finish their sentences. A great listener is able to establish a rapport with people. DO LISTEN, don’t fake it.
