It may have been your dream to be employed by a multinational  company situated in central London, with you flying out to their offices in Venice and New York every other week. How has that worked out? For some of you it has worked as planned, and for some others you’ve been offered jobs at the start up company that runs out the corner of a shared workspace somewhere in East London. Not quite what you imagined.

Don’t fear, for there is something fulfilling about working for a startup company. Think about it, all companies started from somewhere! Facebook was once a startup and look at where it is today, it’s started in Mark’s bedroom!

Here are some reasons why you should consider working for a start up company :

The goal is to transform data into information, and information into insight.

– Carly Fiorina

You will first hand get to see where it all began. Sure it’s easy to join a company that has thousands of employees and has been running for years but aren’t you the least bit curious. You have the opportunity to be involved from the beginning! You will also gain a deeper understanding of why the company began. Including a chance to build a good relationship with the founder of the company.

Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.

-Oprah Winfrey

The position has come in your search for a reason and that’s because it’s in the field you want to work in. The team wants someone just as passionate as they are not only about the job role but the company as well. You are all in it together. The overall commitment is the same maintaining energy and focused so the company can strive.

Women, like men, should try to do the impossible. And when they fail, their failure should be a challenge to others.

– Amelia Earhart

You would have to obtain a bit more responsibility than you normally would. Be ready to get stuck in and face the challenges that come with it. There will be hurdles but with that passion, you’d be able to overcome it! Your colleagues will rely on you as much as you will rely on them. You’re given the opportunity to show off what you are capable of and there aren’t that many people to comepete with!

Creative thinking inspires ideas. Ideas inspire change.

– Barbara Janusziewcz

You will be heard loud and clear with the ideas you have in mind. Things that can make the company better or make things easier. It is always appreciated , you’ll look back and say, “I came up with that.” Even if your idea doesn’t work out you’ve been acknowledged to have such ideas that you weren’t afraid to bring to light. (Idea, light, light bulb… haha)

Look closely at the present you are constructing: it should look like the future you are dreaming.

-Alice Walker

You are with the team! A part of a movement, a growth that you can turn back and say, “I was there at the beginning.” There are many transformations that take place. Facebook and Nike are companies that are still growing. It doesn’t just stop it, it’s about how far you’re willing to go.

Those who are lifting the world upward and onward are those who encourage more than criticize.

– Elizabeth Harrison

Everyone wants success and having the support of one another can certainly get you there. No negativity, just trial, and errors and moving forward.
