There are many ways to regulate your metabolism, and you may be wondering why your diet and exercise routine is just not giving you the results you intended. To put it in simple terms, metabolism is the process where your body converts food and drink into energy.  Did you know by eating large meals with many hours left in between slows your metabolism? So snacking is not all that bad! It’s just about what you chose to snack on that gets your metabolism going.

Always Hungry? author David Ludwig believes you should only eat when you’re really hungry. “Hunger is a sign your body needs calories and something to keep your metabolism going. You should never go hungry,” he says. That’s because when you’re hungry, the brain goes into what’s called starvation mode, something that ups your insulin levels. Despite this evidence, he doesn’t suggest eliminating snacking from your daily routine entirely. “Ignoring hunger, cutting back on calories, and starving yourself doesn’t work over the long term.”

Here are a few items in the food chain that will help you regulate your metabolism.

#1 Almond

It’s part of the nut chain and it is mighty good for your metabolism. Almonds are filled with nutrients, antioxidants and high in Vitamin E. Grab yourself some almond milk or dry almonds.

#2 Dark Chocolate

The main types of chocolate we all go for are white or milk chocolate, however, dark chocolate is actually healthier. So when people say chocolate is bad for you, ask them if they know what dark chocolate does. Dark chocolate has monounsaturated fats (MUFAs) this helps to boost your metabolism as it stimulates your body to burn fat. I’m a fan of dark chocolate! It is not, however, everyone’s cup of tea as it has a bitter taste compared to the milky delight of milk chocolate. It’s unique but it has it’s benefits. It’s always the case that the things that are good for you don’t always taste amazing.

#3 Fish

Fish is rich in omega-3 which is has a positive effect on your metabolism. Add cod, salmon, scallops, oysters and tuna to your day! These days people are going crazy for sushi which is literally as fresh as going to the sea.

#4 Spinach

Good old Popeye taught us well! Spinach is obtained with antioxidants, calcium, vitamins a and c including iron. These high fiber foods increase fat burn and boost your metabolism. The instant muscles is still a myth but with some effort, with a workout, you’ll get there!

#5 Greek-Style Yogurt!

It is high in calcium with double the protein than regular yogurt. Have you seen the ads where they eat greek-yogurt in slow motion? Well, it actually has a faster effect on your body. Which is a good thing! Go grab yourself a tub!

Avocado, Eggs, Broccoli, Oatmeal and Cinnamon are just a few others things you can add!

You also need to make sure you are taking care of yourself not just with what you eat. Make sure you also get a good nights rest and keep hydrated. Again these may be things you hear regularly but they really do help! Before you know it you’ll be feeling a whole lot better.
