Celebrity role models are often few and far between. While there are some who are concerned with their next selfie, getting the attention of the paparazzi and having the most followers on Instagram, there are some celebrities who are focused on making a difference in the world. Sophia Bush is one of these celebrities. Amidst the fame and good fortune that she has earned, she has kept an amazing perspective on life and approaches every new day with the attitude of a true “girl boss”.

Let’s look at a few amazing things that we can learn from Sophia Bush.

1. Make a difference.

While many celebrities are focused on bringing attention to themselves, Sophia Bush is using her fame as a platform for change in the world. Rather than trying to “break the internet” with her selfies, she uses social media to bring awareness to needs across the world. She has been labeled an “activist” countless times and works tirelessly to bring awareness to amazing charities, including Pencils of Promise, Do Something, and I am That Girl. When natural disaster strikes, Sophia is often one of the first to jump onto Crowdrise and start raising money to help those affected by these tragedies. She spends hours replying to her fans on social media, speaking with them about real-life issues and trying to make a difference in their lives. One of her favourite quotes is “Be the change you want to see in the world” by Gandhi.

2. Educate yourself

Sophia believes strongly in empowering women to be the best versions of themselves, especially in the area of education. “Be the smartest girl in the room”, she was quoted as saying, “The most valuable part about you is your brain. Get an education; don’t let anybody tell you that your body or the size that you wear matters, because it doesn’t. Your brain matters, so be the smartest girl in the room because to be funny you have to be smart, because you have to get the joke.”

3. Be a great friend

Sophia values true friendships and not only looks for, but tries to be, the kind of friend who is genuine, kind and supportive. As much as she loves acting in different locations throughout the country, she admits that “there were years where I would have given anything to have been at home and been able to crawl into my best friend’s bed and eat ice cream.” She doesn’t care whether her friends are famous or not and it’s not about what they can do for her. She believes that to have amazing friends, you must be an amazing friend.

4. Focus on inner beauty

Sophia has been quoted as saying, “To be happy, it first takes being comfortable being in your own shoes. The rest can work up from there.” She believes that beauty can’t be defined by what is seen in current magazines or by the expectations of society. She says, “I think it’s an absolutely ludicrous idea that beauty only fits in one box. It doesn’t matter what measurement is around our thighs, it matters what you put out into the world. It matters how many times a day you smile, and are you good to the people in your life. Are you good to the people you work with? Are you good to your family and your friends? Are you good to your community? Those are the things that make a person beautiful”.

5. Trust your instincts

Sophia is in a tough industry. She faces countless opinions, some from people she knows, but many from people she’s never even met. She deals with gossip that’s untrue, and people who are only looking out for themselves. She says that one of the biggest things that she has learned over time is to trust her instincts about people. She advises people to not ignore red flags, and reminds them that they don’t need to please other people. She says, “ I don’t need to give anyone else’s opinion more weight than my own. My opinions should matter the most because they’re mine. And if your opinions are formed from a place of genuine honesty and kindness for others, then your opinions are worth defending.”

Sophia Bush values the importance of hard work, career and education, but knows that the most important part of a woman is her character and legacy. If you’re looking for an incredible role model, look no further. Sophia Bush is your girl!
